Successful businesses are all about successful employee management. As Howard Schultz puts it, “We want passion for our business…workers who can interpret and execute our mission, who want to build a career, not just take a temporary job.”
When the economy is in crisis and recession looms, most small businesses are the first to bear the brunt. This article is for all small business owners who can benefit from some inspirational sayings, which will help them inspire, motivate and empower employees. When there is a recession on, it is not the best time to lose your staff. Some loss will be there if you are forced to let some people go. However, good business owners know their responsibility towards loyal staff.
There are employees who are filled with a passion to succeed; it does not matter if they are supported or thwarted in their efforts, they will find a way to perform excellently. Business leaders who know how to inspire and motivate employees will undertake to create an environment that supports self motivation, helping to develop and expand it.
There are many famous inspirational sayings; Sidney Madwed states, “If constructive thoughts are planted positive outcomes will be the result. Plant the seeds of failure and failure will follow.”
An employer who inspires and motivates his staff, empowering them with decision making powers is telling them as plainly as possible that they are important to the company and their net worth has a far greater value than just money.
History and a study of human nature have shown that motivated employees perform extremely well and productivity levels are high. When employees are well cared for and work in an atmosphere that breeds inspiration and loyalty, they want to do more than their best for the company. Being in a recession does not bother such employees. On the other hand they feel highly motivated to work harder to carry the company through the bad times; they do this because company losses are felt personally by such employees.
“Our mission statement about treating people with respect and dignity is not just words but a creed we live by every day. You can’t expect your employees to exceed the expectations of your customers if you don’t exceed the employees’ expectations of management.” Howard Schultz
It is no secret nor is it rocket science that motivated staffs are a high performance oriented staff. It is the duty of the management to find ways to keep their staff inspired and motivated; keep them happy and they will work well. Unhappy employees are unproductive employees!
Finding ways to keep employees motivated is not a ‘one size fits all’ remedy. What works as a motivating factor for one person may not work for another. You need to find ways to enhance communication, give praise where due and implement rewards and recognition programs to acknowledge employee contribution.
Consider empowering your employees and actually listening to their suggestions. You may be pleasantly surprised.
“Organizations that remain vital show their new employees that they are needed. At the same time, they never forget the value of their long-service employees. And they always give both a second chance.” Unknown Author.
